This week we are discussing the premier lyrical novelist, Virginia Woolf.
Often considered the premier lyrical novelist of the 20th century, Virginia Woolf was a woman whose brilliant mind has inspired countless writers and poets both during and beyond her time. She was known for her stream of consciousness style that focused heavily with internal monologues and the juxtaposition of what the subject was feeling versus what they would say aloud. This would come forth in her personal essays as well where she often discussed her experiences as not only a woman during the time but also as someone who struggled with mental illness during the post WWI era. For someone who saw so much darkness in herself and her world, Virginia kept a laudable level of grounded realism which, when read in today’s turbulence, offers a timeless sense of comfort and perspective.
